One-to-One Drum Kit Lessons
So, you’re looking for Drum Kit lessons? Whether you’re a complete beginner finding your groove for the first time or an advanced player wanting to refine your technique, we’ve got you covered!
Our experienced Drum Kit teachers have played across a wide range of styles and have worked with students of all ages and skill levels. Our lessons focus on building essential skills to make you a well-rounded drummer, while also allowing you to explore your preferred styles. We also prepare students for graded examinations. What can I expect from my lessons?
We warmly invite all new students to enjoy a free 30-minute Discovery Session!
During your Discovery Session, we’ll talk about your musical background, discuss your goals, and provide some tuition so you can experience your teacher’s style firsthand.

Since every student is unique and at different stages in their musical journey, each lesson is tailored to your individual goals. While not everyone may wish to pursue graded exams, we incorporate some graded material to help build your technique and progress steadily.
Each lesson might include:

Warm-up exercises

Introduction to new rudiments

Reading drum kit notation

Working on graded material or a song you’re excited to play
Remember, these lessons are yours to shape! Your teacher will have content planned, but feel free to let them know if there’s something specific you’d like to explore, and they’ll adjust the lessons accordingly.
Do I need to buy a Drum Kit?
For your discovery session, you don’t need to worry! Our teachers will all have a drum kit available for you to use. The only exception to this is where you opt for home visits or online lessons, where you will need to have an appropriate instrument to use.
When you begin your regular lessons with us, we would recommend buying your own instrument so that you are able to practice between your lessons. We believe that learning a new instrument requires a level of commitment and purchasing your own instrument is a great way to make that commitment.
Don’t worry though! A new piano or keyboard doesn’t have to cost a huge amount of money and we will guide your through the process and make recommendations for you.
Alternatively, we do offer a rental service for students who are enrolled in lessons with Andrew Jay’s School of Music. For more information, please speak to your teacher or contact the office.
